Cover Me is an independent shift-trade coordination and record-keeping tool for firefighters. This privacy policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your choices. We keep it straightforward because we believe you should understand exactly what happens with your data.

How We Use Your Information

Google Calendar and Google User Data

Cover Me offers an optional Google Calendar integration. If you choose to enable it, you authorize Cover Me through Google's secure OAuth consent screen, granting only the https://www.googleapis.com/auth/calendar.app.created scope.

This scope is intentionally narrow. It allows Cover Me to create and maintain a single dedicated secondary calendar that the app itself creates ("Cover Me") and to write your shift-trade schedule events into that calendar. It does not grant Cover Me the ability to read, edit, or delete any of your other Google calendars or events.

How we use Google user data:

Cover Me's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs to any other app will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. We do not transfer Google user data to third parties except as necessary to provide and improve the calendar feature, comply with applicable law, or as part of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets with notice to affected users. We do not use Google user data for serving advertisements, and we do not allow humans to read this data unless we have your affirmative consent, it is necessary for security purposes (such as investigating abuse), to comply with applicable law, or the data has been aggregated and anonymized.

Who Can See Your Information

Within the app: Your profile information (name, department, station, rank, shift) is visible to other signed-in users. Trade records are visible to trade participants, relevant department administrators, and authorized support personnel.

Department administrators: Certain users may be designated as department administrators with elevated access to profiles, trades, balances, and related records for operational and support purposes. Administrators are privileged app users and are not necessarily official representatives of a department.

Service providers: We use third-party services to operate Cover Me, including:

These providers process data as necessary to provide their services and are subject to their own privacy policies.

Founders and operators: The developers and operators of Cover Me may access production data when reasonably necessary to provide support, investigate bugs, respond to user-reported issues, maintain the service, or protect its integrity and security.

Sponsors and Partners

Cover Me may display sponsored content from third-party companies and may include affiliate links to partner products and services. We may share aggregate, de-identified statistics with sponsors and partners, such as total number of active users, average sessions per day, or general usage trends.

We will never share personally identifiable information with sponsors or partners. This includes names, email addresses, hire dates, departments, ranks, station assignments, trade details, and any data that could identify an individual user.

Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored in Firebase (Google Cloud) infrastructure located in the United States. We use Firebase Authentication for account security, Firestore security rules to control data access, and HTTPS encryption for data in transit. While we take reasonable measures to protect your information, no system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Certain data may also be stored locally on your device, including cached documents, app preferences, and sync state.

Data Retention

We retain your account and trade data for as long as your account is active. Trade history and balance records are kept as part of the app's core record-keeping function. If you request account deletion, we will delete your account and associated personal data within a reasonable timeframe, though some records may be retained where necessary for legal compliance, dispute resolution, or to maintain the integrity of other users' trade histories.

Children's Privacy

Cover Me is designed for working firefighters and is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If we learn that we have collected information from a child under 13, we will delete it.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you through the app or by email. Continued use of Cover Me after a change means you accept the updated policy.
